No money, Mo problems

Whats going on everyone, good morning to you all. Just wanted to say I am glad to be blessed with another day and share my thoughts/ opinions with you all. I love the new banner that the homie Steve designed for me, he is really good at design and putting stuff together. Last week, I heard back from another MMA site forum I discovered and am now one of their writers/ reporters making my way up the ladder. It's pretty cool that my fanfare for MMA is paying off by letting me cover it, I would love to be a full fledged sports journalist one day, so maybe this is a step in the right path.

You can visit the site I contribute to on the home page of The Upkick...GOOD SITES - USCS
You can also find Steve's (banner designer) web blog @ NERDGASM

You have to call me, Nighthawk

There are few actors/comedians of our time who i feel truly are genius. In my opinion, Will Ferrell is the best in a while, If you do not care for his comedic style or acting stop reading, otherwise thank you for reading this. From his early days on SNL to movies and now being one of the biggest comedic actors of present time, Ferrell has tuned his style into a cult following. The best thing about him is the following and response he brings; you are or are not a fan, I have discovered the re is no "in-between"

Being a fan of both his movie and TV roles it is hard to determine what "his best" is. For movies, I would put Step Brothers at the top, with The Other Guys closely behind. Anchorman, Ricky Bobby, Elf were all good, amidst some of the lesser movies like Blades of Glory or Semi Pro. I am super stoked he is on "The Office" as a manager trainee for Dunder Mifflin and is being considered as a permanent replacement for Steve Carrell in the next season. Will Ferrell understands how to make people laugh and is good at it. His new movie, he is going to speak entirely in Spanish for his role, don't believe me...look at this gem below

Grass stains MMA

I have seen alot of things in my life so far that make me take a second look, give it extra thought, wonder what they were thinking when they did it. Examples would be: Godfather part 3, release the script to WWE before the events happen, electing Obama, a wide array of topics. A new item to the list is, Grassroots MMA. These are a group of guys who obviously have watched an episode of TUF, or even a few PPV events and think they are Anderson Silva's biggest threat.

From wearing jeans in a fight, to no mouthpiece's required (only saw one that I noticed) these kids are fighting on grass and dirt with 4oz. gloves and honestly trying to show they are fighters. Amateurs with a dream they may be, but they are shedding a negative light on a sport which although continues to blossom and become sanctioned, is still not accepted everywhere. Kids like these are the reason why New York state has yet to legalize MMA. Think I am just being mean? Watch the video below and respond with what you think. I am all for ambitious fighters who want to make MMA a career, if you want to do that - get into a local MMA gym and learn from trained professionals in a safe and learning environment.

Give me strength

"For I can do all things thru Christ which strengthen me" - Phillipians 4:13

I know I post alot about games, movies , MMA, etc. but the thing I love more than any of this is Jesus. I am very proud of who I am and what God has done for me in my life. One thing all of us need to know and remember when adversity comes out way is, Jesus has given us the strength to push on and persevere thru the situations at hand. We however, need to acknowledge who He is and what He can do, it is a two way relationship, you need to put something into it to get something out of it

It Has Begun...

In addition to the story of the new Mortal Kombat game, Machinima.com has debuted a really cool webseries taking a darker approach to the game, in a realtime enviornment. The movies they made back in the 90's were good for their time and they were cheese-tastic! The new series (Mortal Kombat: Legacy) shows what a real MK would be like. I just finished the first episode and it is very promising. Here is a link to the season trailer, and please go to : http://www.machinima.com/ to watch the full season of the show debuting today!

Flawless Victory

Remember arcades? Unless you were born in the 80's or early 90's the chances are you do not. they were the greatest places to be. The only time you knew of a new game is by hearing these crazy rumors or being lucky enough to go play yourself. i can remember waiting in line at Rack N Roll for almost an hour with 4 quarters until I was in line to lose my money as quickly as I could put it in the machine. the games were great: Street Fighter, Tekken, Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat.

MK was great because it was the game you weren't supposed to play but everyone did. It was bloody, scary and addictive. the only thing better than playing at the arcade was when you read in your GamePro that they were developing a console version of the game you could play on your Genesis or SNES (everyone knows the Genesis version was better because it had the blood) I lost many hours of sleep trying to master the fatalities but ended up usually uppercutting the dazed opponent instead.

Over the years, the game is still beloved and played buy millions, all awaiting the next good MK game. the best game to date is Mortal Kombat 2, no questions asked. there were a few standouts since then but nothing as good as the second game. Next week (Apr. 19) we see a whole new game, "Mortal Kombat" which has been overhauled and offers the same famous characters and new stages, fatalities and bone breaking "X-ray" scenes. I have played the demo and it is AMAZING! The Unreal engine they have used for game design is flawless and everything is crisp and clear. I am waiting patiently for the full release to again lose sleep and hopefully master some fatalities this time around.

Would you like butter on your popcorn?

April 8th, 2011..in seven calender days from now the summer movie season is officially beginning. Alot of people don't see the start of summer until Memorial Day, but this is a movie season and some may say I am early in my time but I say no. When "300" opened in March 2007, alot of studios saw the numbers it did and the film itself could have done more if opened as a summer blockbuster, and since then it seems as if studios have pushed bigger releases earlier and earlier each year.

Next week, we will see "Scream 4" and "Rio". These are two totally different movies but both have potential to be very big and pull in summer like figures. In the same month, "Fast Five" is released and that is a blockbuster already, I am not saying that by film quality, just smart enough to know when a movie will make over $100 Million

Big releases this year are set to be: Hangover part 2; Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides; Captain America; Transformers 3; Green Lantern and many others I am sure. I am eagerly waiting on the wolfpack to be back in action, and am also awaiting Capt. Jack Sparrow to revive interest of mine in a franchise that I think, should have been stopped after the first film. Please enjoy the trailers below and hit the theaters!

Mr. 209 - Nick Diaz

Nick Diaz, Strikeforce welterweight champion, former WEC champion, UFC/ Pride veteran, Gracie BJJ Black belt and straight up beast. The guy is in my opinion, the most under-rated fighter in MMA today. He has gone out time and time again and beaten opponents decisively and without relying on his strength (Jiu Jitsu) most of the time. Utilizing crisp, quick jabs he has made no mistake or discrepancy in showing why he is champion.

April 9, 2011 he meets Paul Daley to defend his welterweight championship and people always talk about how, this (insert fighter) will be a test of his skill. Diaz will win and no doubt in my mind; example - when he fought Robbie Lawler, another powerful striker with KO ability, what happened..Nick KO'd him!! Nick is always being written off as a thug who will have to test his sills in order to win. The man has proven why he is the best and needs to go to UFC immediately.

With the purchase of Strikeforce, Diaz is now possibly able to join UFC since Zuffa is the parent company to both organizations. Dana White says he would love to have him back if he can learn to play the game (become more marketable, do PR, poster bay stuff) Dana is an idiot if that is his reasoning: Anderson Silva sits there and dances for 5 rounds if he feels the opponent is "beneath his skill" and he is still there; Chris Leben gets popped for DUI and he is still fighting big names; do not use someone's non interest in PR be the reason they are not fighting in the big show. Diaz would bring in alot more PPV buys and would finally face top tier level opponents every time.
